Fresh from its IPO, Turkish powerhouse Hepsiburada is embracing the best of global marketplaces as it grows post-pandemic. Hepsiburada (“everything is here”) has been extending its influence across the Middle East, attracting some 97m visitors a month from the region – being both a marketplace and a retailer on its own account. In key respects, it emulates the Amazon model by having integrated and capable logistics and free returns. Hepsiburada’s capabilities as a sophisticated marketplace offer a paradigm of scope and efficiency that sets a standard. In our discussion we’ll hear how Hepsiburada who started mainly in electrical and electronic items, have since grown to have more than 43m SKUs, and how they are looking towards growth areas in grocery (HepsiExpress), airline ticketing and money transfers.

Alper Hankendi, Director of Engineering at Hepsiburada will kick off our discussion, but do note that this is a “mic on, camera on” interactive discussion (not a presentation where people just sit back or half-listen!). Please apply to join us if you want to make a contribution, are ready to share your own experiences and learnings, and of course have questions to pose to the group.

There will be no notes, no recording, no slides, no ‘deck’, no follow up. This is a case of be there or miss the moment!

The event is confidential and off the record, held under the Chatham House Rule.

We have space for about 8 people to join, and it’s ideally suited to hands-on experts, who understand the systems in use or who are looking for better solutions, and would like to discuss, share and learn with peers. In particular we’ll look at the demands of connecting with a fickle yet knowledgeable consumer in a market that by definition is fast-paced.

If you’d like to participate please let us know using the form below or mail our Event Manager Sophie Weston (sophie@retailx.net) if you’ve any questions.

RetailX European Executive Network Dinners in association with Tealium

To complement our Europe Top1000 research, an executive networking dinner series for the people driving performance in direct to consumer digital commerce

For the last 8 years we have been researching the performance of the best retailers and brands across Europe. We cover company performance, the market context in each country and the vertical sector dynamics. However, retail performance is made possible by people, and so the dinner series is a way to connect Europe’s leaders via informal, confidential dinners – where peers can exchange experiences and ideas.

Tealium has been a research partner for many years supporting the production of our ranking research such as the RXEU Top1000, EU Top500 Brands going D2C, and the UK Country Ecommerce Report 2022

What are the dinners?

Sales-free, presentation-free, confidential and convivial gatherings… Five-star dining and even better company! 20 retail, digital, consumer leaders from across sectors and verticals networking – where the common topic is how to connect with the demanding, savvy, digital consumer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you really not have sales or presentations?

Not a slide, not a forced “talk about this topic”, no pre-reading, nothing. We arrive, chat, sit for dinner and chat, that’s it. It’s all about conversation and meeting interesting leaders.

Can I come with a colleague?

No. Sorry. It’s one person per company. This ensures that your evening is all about meeting new people and not continuing office conversations over dinner.

What do you mean by ‘confidential’?

The evenings are off the record and held under the honour system known as the Chatham House Rule – https://www.chathamhouse.org/about-us/chatham-house-rule You can discuss matters freely without being quoted or named as the source. All guests are asked to agree to this.

Why are the dinners in English?

We chose English since it’s the common language for business leaders across Europe. Our board-level guests speak English, often work in English and are growth-focused, looking to other countries than their own. In addition we like to bring guests from other countries to network across borders. However, during the evening you can converse with your fellow diners in whatever language you wish and we would expect nothing else!

A privileged, confidential discussion behind the scenes with IKEA covering talent, transformation and team flexibility to deliver the customer experience.

IKEA operates over 430 stores, is a global manufacturer, with a focus upon affordability, style and sustainability. They flex to local conditions while maintaining a global consistency in service, quality and values. As consumers we have come to expect this and perhaps take it for granted, yet as retail professionals we are in awe of the processes and approaches that match manufacturing and retail workflows with a diverse and talented team, to deliver that experience.

In our discussions we’ll cover:

In short, it’s a session to discuss openly the confluence of business values, staff capabilities, supporting platforms and hybrid change – all in a confidential setting over breakfast.
Our two guests from IKEA will start the conversation, but it’s not a presentation or a ‘sit back and listen’ session. It’s a real conversation.
In order to participate you will be responsible for people and change in a similarly-complex business, and have both questions and contributions of your own. The session will be chaired by our Editor in Chief, Ian Jindal, with the aim of ensuring a full sharing of views.

Our format is:

Confidential

No quoting, no recording, no transcript

Live only

There’s no “update aftwards” – you’re either there or you’ve missed it

Presentation free

No powerpoint or decks – just discussion

No sales

No pitches, sales or solutions – this is a discussion amongst peers to learn and exchange experiences

It is a great privilege to have an open conversation with IKEA and our format will allow you to engage with an exemplar of scale, global reach, complexity and values that is unrivalled.

We have space for 8 guests to join us, and our team are inviting people already. If we’ve not yet reached you, or you’d like to join, please do complete the form and we’ll contact you. We require your work email address to validate you, and all valid applications will be acknowledged. Please note that this session is open to retailers and brands only.

“Personalisation at scale and at speed, across a wider category offering” – a discussion about the realities of introducing, optimising and flexing personalisation approaches in a confidential, off the record chat between peers.

John Lewis is one of the most capable multichannel retailers, having been an early pioneer in multi-category ecommerce, and a master at integrating stores with digital and delivery. Widely admired by peers, competitors and consumers alike, John Lewis’s hallmark attribute is “trust”.

As such there is a significant demand upon personalisation approaches – they have to be true to the product’s relevant attributes, appropriate for the customer, and be assessed within the context of a multi-year relationship with the consumer. Lewis will share with us some of the challenges, approaches, successes and learnings from his experience at the group

Lewis will kick off our discussion, but do note that this is a “mic on, camera on” interactive discussion (not a presentation where people just sit back or half-listen!). The event is confidential and off the record, held under the Chatham House Rule.
